CIRANO's 30th anniversary Recognition Cocktail

For three decades, CIRANO has embodied excellence in economic research and analysis, making a significant contribution to public policy in Quebec and beyond. This 30th anniversary marks a key milestone, in which we celebrate the quality and expertise of our researchers, as well as the unfailing commitment of our partners, without whom this adventure would not be possible. At the dawn of new decades, CIRANO is positioning itself more than ever as an essential player in informing science-based decision-making in response to major societal challenges. We continue to combine Knowledge and Decision to meet tomorrow's challenges with innovation and rigor. 

Here's some information on how the evening will unfold:

5pm - Arrival of guests

5:15pm - Start of the event, first speeches

CIRANO President and CEO Nathalie de Marcellis-Warin will make opening remarks.

Minister Eric Girard, Quebec's Minister of Finance and partner, will be present and will give a speech at the start of the event. 

Board Chairman Louise Roy will give a speech and introduce the panel of researchers, Pierre-Carl Michaud (HEC Montréal), Erin Strumpf (McGill University), Marie Connolly (UQAM), Pierre-Olivier Pineau (HEC Montréal). This panel will highlight the importance of science and research for informed, data-driven decision-making and innovative public policy on major societal issues.

6pm - Awards ceremony

Tribute to our founders and builders Robert Lacroix, Marcel Boyer and Claude Montmarquette, our former CEOs, as well as our researchers and teams, who make up the richness of our center.

Presentation of the Claude Montmarquette scholarship to a student enrolled in a master's program in economics at the Université de Montréal (by Prof. Michel Poitevin). Representatives of the Fondation de l'Université de Montréal will be present. 

Presentation of recognition awards to personalities who have contributed to Quebec's economic and social development and supported CIRANO's activities in their various capacities, in the following order

  1. Henri-Paul Rousseau, Délégué général du Québec à Paris (Associate Professor HEC Montréal, former CIRANO Board member and Visiting Fellow from 2015 to 2024) 
  2. Claude Gagnon, former President, Operations, BMO Financial Group, Quebec (former CIRANO Board member)
  3. Martine Turcotte, former President, Quebec Division, BCE Inc. and Bell Canada (one of CIRANO's founding partners)
  4. Jacques Girard, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Université de Montréal, former Deputy Minister of Education.
  5. Francoise Bertrand, Chairman of the Board, VIA Rail 
  6. John Parisella, Strategy and Outreach Advisor, National, Former Delegate General of Quebec in New York (Founding member of the Alliance of Ambassadors at CIRANO)
  7. Madeleine Féquière, Consul General of Canada to the United States in Chicago
  8. Joanne Liu, Physician, professor and former international president of Médecins Sans Frontière
